  • The cervix is the lower part of the uterus which is 1inch in length and is tightly closed so that products of conception are kept in place.
  • In certain conditions where the cervix becomes loose, the products are expelled without pain and bleeding.
  • This is more common in 2nd Trimester

  • Congenital (rare)
  • Acquired
  • Vigorous Dilation – Causing tear
  • Wrong Application of forces during delivery causing a tear of the cervix
  • Amputation of cervix

Signs & Symptoms of Cervical Incompetence

  • The patient feels vague lower abdomen
  • Patient feel dragging pain in the vagina and she feels something is falling out of the vagina
  • Patient notices the sudden flow of liquor
  • Suddenly products of conception are expelled
  • No pain and no bleeding are characteristic features

  • Regular Antenatal Checkup
  • Cerclage at 12- 14 weeks
  • Removal of Cerclage at 38 Weeks

  • Complete Blood Picture, Complete Urine Examination, Blood Grouping and Rh Typing, Scanning
