We Have to Know about the Post Operative Care And Problems

Certain problems can follow an operation
They can appear immediately after surgery or later.
They can be due to anesthesia, operation or the general health and associated diseases of the patient.
Post operative problems can include pain, bleeding, vomiting, cough, infection, fever etc.
Some problems may be specific to a particular operation and carefully following the instructions of doctors is mandatory.
Problems that occur immediately after the operation may be alarming to the relative and attendants of the patient. Preoperative information about possible problems and complication to them will minimize their apprehension (fear). A humane understanding of their feelings and proper care are mandatory

Surgical procedure-the operation causes injury to tissues and just like any other injury, the wound causes pain, bleeding etc.
Anesthetic medications and type of operation can cause vomiting.
Passage of tubes into throat and air passages during operation can produce cough, respiratory infections etc.

Pain, bleeding, vomiting, cough, breathlessness, difficulty in passing urine while lying in bed, chills and rigors, fever etc.

Any previous health problems of the patient like infections, diabetes, high blood pressure, heart or lung ailments can predispose to the post operative problems

Not much self care is possible.
Remaining calm, informing the medical attendants about problem and following instructions carefully are essential for recovery of the patient.
