  • Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is the most common cause of bronchiolitis & pneumonia among infants and children under 1 ( one ) year of age

Causes of Respiratory Syncytial Viruses

  • The virus is transmitted from person to person through the air (coughing and sneezing)
  • Severe lower respiratory tract disease may occur at any age period, especially among the elderly or among those with compromised cardiac, pulmonary, or immune systems of the body

Signs & Symptoms of Respiratory Syncytial Viruses

  • Fever
  • A runny nose
  • A cough
  • Sometimes wheezing occur
  • Also causes repeated infections throughout life, usually associated with moderate-to-severe cold-like symptoms

  • If the symptoms are severe
  • If there is no relief for more than 3 days

Treatment for Respiratory Syncytial Viruses

  • No specific treatment is necessary for children with mild symptoms.
  • Children with severe disease may require oxygen therapy & sometimes mechanical ventilation
